One of the problems I constantly had, was that sims got books from the bookcase and looked right for a dining chair to sit and read. This causes me lots of troubles, mainly when there are computers in the room. Office chairs never had own category and as soon as a sim sits on a chair connected to a desk, another sim comes to claim it. It is a pain.
To reduce the stomping, I decided to include limitations for the use of dining chairs. My first step was about the bookcase.
Sims will get books and will look around first for a sofa, 2seats or living chairs. If none are found, they will be forced to sit on the ground or read on stand. They cannot use dining chairs for this purpose.
I’m not sure about an interaction where kids are read on the bed. I never used and don’t know if the parents have to sit on chairs for this action. If it is true, then you should think twice before adding this mod to your game.
The use of chairs in the game is chaotic. I’m surprised that there are categories for several objects that don’t have more than one item, but chairs were not properly categorized. Well. 
PS.: Included a second version named “Read-Find A Non Dining Chair as 1st to Sit”, to comply with a request to have a Dining Chair as last option. The process now is: sims will look for a living chair or sofa, first inside and in same room only, second inside and line of sight only, third look everywhere including dining chairs, fourth if nothing found, they sit on the ground or stand.
I didn’t test because I’m very safe in Simpe and my system is so fast that Sims would sit in a dining chair, what I don’t want them to do. Maybe you don’t mind but I get absolutely furious when dinner serving is interrupted and the dinner is placed on the ground, just because in the meantime someone decided to read in the kitchen.

I have to check that one. At the moment it was the only workable solution. The use of chairs are pulled from the different object sources (in the case, the bookcase). It is a simple “look for a place to sit”. I’m investigating other possibilities and the ideal would be to categorize Office Chairs. This is not so difficult because it could be used one of the extra categories that EA didn’t make use of. But Chairs are globals and I’m not sure if I would have to change half of the game to attain a tiny goal as it happened to me before. Will see.
A second version is on, for you. You can test and see if it is what you want. 🙂
